How we write and review
Medical information should be accurate, balanced and easy to check. This is how we make ours.
Who writes and who reviews
Treatment pages, guides and journal articles are written by the iQonic editorial team from published guidance and peer-reviewed research, or by one of our surgeons. Before publication, every clinical page is medically reviewed by a consultant plastic surgeon on the GMC Specialist Register, who checks that it is accurate, balanced, clear about risks and consistent with how we practise:
- Breast and body surgery: Mr Adrian Richards FRCS (Plast), Medical Director, and Dr Ali Arnaout FRCS (Plast).
- Face surgery and skin: Miss Suzie Murphy FRCS (Plast).
Where a surgeon writes an article, a different surgeon reviews it. Each reviewer is named on the page with their GMC number and a link to their profile, so you can check their registration.
What the dates on each page mean
- Last reviewed: the date a named surgeon last checked the whole page.
- Next review due: no more than 12 months after the last review.
- Updated: the last time the content changed in a way that matters to you, such as a price, a recovery time or new evidence. Spelling corrections do not change this date.
We review a page sooner when the MHRA issues a safety notice, when NICE, GMC or Royal College of Surgeons guidance changes, when significant new evidence is published, or when a patient or clinician tells us something is wrong.
Sources
We rely first on the NHS, NICE, the MHRA, the Royal College of Surgeons, BAAPS and BAPRAS, then on peer-reviewed research. Every treatment page and guide lists its references. Where research is funded by a manufacturer, we say so.
Conflicts of interest
Our surgeons perform the operations they review, and iQonic is paid for them. To keep our information balanced, every treatment page covers risks and alternatives, including non-surgical options and NHS routes where they exist.
Use of AI tools
Some of our pages are drafted with the help of AI writing tools. No page is published until our editorial team has checked it against its sources and a named surgeon has medically reviewed it.
What we won’t do
- Use words like “safe”, “painless” or “risk-free” about surgery.
- Offer discounts or time-limited deals.
- Use retouched photographs or images of anyone other than our patients in before-and-after galleries.
- Publish reviews we have paid or incentivised.
Corrections
If you think something on this site is wrong, please email [email protected]. We will review it and correct it quickly.
AI and machine-readable information
We publish a plain-text summary of key facts for search engines and AI assistants at /llms.txt. It contains the same information as this website.
