The UK’s First Mia® Femtech Clinic: Inside Minimally Invasive Breast Enhancement

For decades, the choice in front of a woman considering breast enhancement was narrower than it looked. Traditional augmentation meant general anaesthetic, an incision on or beneath the breast, weeks of restricted movement, and a recovery measured against time off work and time away from children. The result could be excellent. The price of admission was high.

Mia® Femtech was built to change that equation. It is a minimally invasive breast enhancement technique that places a specially designed, biocompatible implant through a small incision hidden in the fold of the armpit, leaving no scar on the breast itself. The procedure takes around fifteen minutes, is performed under local anaesthetic, and is designed around same-day recovery. In the UK, the first surgeon to perform it, and the first clinic to offer it, was iQonic Aesthetics.

First in the UK, and still the original

iQonic Aesthetics is the United Kingdom’s first Mia® clinic. Our founder and Medical Director, Mr Adrian Richards, was the first surgeon in the country to perform a Mia® Femtech breast enhancement, a milestone reported in the aesthetics trade press at the time and one we do not take lightly.

Being first is not, on its own, a reason to choose a clinic. What being first has given us is something harder to replicate: more Mia® consultations, more Mia® procedures, and more Mia® recoveries observed first-hand than anyone else in the UK. When a patient asks us what the first week actually feels like, or how the implant settles over three months, or how it behaves on a mammogram years later, we are not reading from a brochure. We are answering from experience.

Mr Richards brings more than 10,000 breast surgeries to that experience, alongside a career that included senior roles at some of the UK’s most established aesthetic institutions. The Mia® technique sits within that wider surgical judgement, not apart from it. That distinction matters: a minimally invasive procedure is only as safe as the surgeon’s ability to assess who it suits and, just as importantly, who it does not.

What Mia® Femtech actually is

Mia® Femtech is a tissue-preserving approach to breast enhancement. Rather than opening the breast, the technique uses patented high-tech instrumentation to create a small channel, sometimes described as a “nest,” for the implant. The implant is then placed through a discreet incision concealed in the armpit fold. Because the breast tissue itself is preserved rather than divided, the procedure is designed to be less painful, less disruptive, and faster to recover from than conventional augmentation.

The defining features

  • A 15-minute procedure performed under local anaesthetic, without the need for general anaesthesia.
  • No scar on the breast. The single small incision is hidden in the fold of the armpit.
  • Diamond-shaped silicone implants engineered for projection with a natural look and movement, available in a focused range of sizes (approximately 140–195cc) designed for subtle, proportional enhancement rather than dramatic volume.
  • Tissue preservation, with the breast tissue kept intact rather than cut, supporting a more comfortable recovery.
  • Same-day recovery, with most patients returning to normal daily activities quickly rather than booking weeks of downtime.
  • Mammography-friendly implants equipped with Zen® RFID technology, allowing implant data to be verified safely and supporting routine breast screening.

It is worth being clear about what Mia® is for. This is not a route to a dramatic increase in size, and it is not a breast lift. It is designed for women seeking a natural, proportional enhancement, often to restore shape and fullness lost after pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight changes, or simply time. For the right candidate, it offers a result that looks like you, on a recovery timeline that fits a real life.

Why this is having a moment

Two things have shifted at once. The technology has matured, and patient expectations have changed. A generation of women who grew up with non-surgical aesthetics, with treatments measured in lunch breaks rather than recovery weeks, are now asking the same of breast enhancement. Minimal downtime is no longer a luxury feature. For many, it is the deciding factor.

Mia® meets that expectation directly. The fifteen-minute, local-anaesthetic format removes the two barriers women cite most often: the fear of general anaesthetic and the cost, professional and personal, of extended recovery. That is why interest in the procedure has grown sharply, and why a number of UK clinics have begun to offer it. iQonic’s position is simply that we were here first, and that experience compounds.

The journey, from consultation to confidence

1. Consultation and planning

Every Mia® journey at iQonic begins with an in-depth consultation. Mr Richards and the team assess your breast anatomy, listen carefully to your goals, and use advanced 3D imaging to help you visualise a realistic outcome before any decision is made. This is also where candidacy is determined honestly. If Mia® is not the right procedure for your anatomy or your goals, we will tell you, and explain what might be.

2. The procedure

On the day, the procedure itself takes around fifteen minutes under local anaesthetic. The implant is placed through the concealed armpit incision using the tissue-preserving channel technique. There is no general anaesthetic to recover from and no breast incision to heal.

3. Recovery and aftercare

Most patients are able to return to their normal routine the same day or the next. Aftercare is structured and supported, including ongoing guidance through the Adoreal patient platform, so that the experience does not end when you leave the clinic. Mia® also offers a Warranty Programme for implant replacement where needed, and a Women’s Choice Programme providing financial support toward future reversals, reflecting the procedure’s emphasis on long-term reassurance.

Is Mia® Femtech right for you?

Mia® tends to suit women who want a natural, proportional enhancement with minimal disruption to their lives, and who are realistic about scale. It is frequently chosen by those addressing changes after pregnancy, breastfeeding, or weight fluctuation. It may be less suitable for those seeking a large increase in size or significant lift, where a traditional surgical approach could deliver a better result. The only reliable way to know is a consultation with an experienced Mia® surgeon.

A note on cost

Mia® Femtech is a bespoke procedure, and the investment reflects the implant chosen, the complexity of your case, and the aftercare involved. Rather than publish a single figure that cannot account for the individual in front of us, we provide a clear, itemised cost during consultation, so you know exactly what is included before you decide. We would always encourage comparing not just price, but the experience and track record of the surgeon performing the procedure.
